What is an Electric Fencing Device?
An electric fencing device is used to keep animals within a pasture, or to keep animals such as wolves or pests out of your cornfield. As long as the animal does not touch the electric wire and the wire is properly insulated, the electric fence device creates an open circuit. The electric wire sends repeated voltage pulses through the wire. When an animal touches the wire, the circuit is closed through the animal’s body, and electricity flows. This also happens in case of a short circuit or when vegetation touches the wire. The electric shock is short but harmless to the animal. The stronger the effect on the animal, the better the animal learns to understand the system and will avoid the fence.
The Patura battery-powered electric fence devices are available in 9-volt, 12-volt, or 230-volt versions. The electric fence devices are divided into different classes, ranging from medium-strength to very powerful, for short to long fences.
What are the benefits of Patura electric fence devices?
Fully Encapsulated Electronics:
The electrical components are fully protected against water, moisture, battery fumes, pests, and insects. These are common causes of faulty electric fencing devices.
Digital Display:
Some electric fence devices have a digital display. This display shows, for example, the charge level of the battery or the earth voltage, depending on the model.
Magnetic Switch:
The magnetic switch controls the various functions of the electric fence device. Because it is a magnetic switch, corrosion is almost completely excluded. With the magnetic switch, you can set different modes, such as day and night settings to deter nocturnal animals or adjust the fence’s range.
Deep Discharge Protection:
Electric fence devices with a 12-volt battery are equipped with deep discharge protection. This prevents the battery from draining completely. When a deep discharge occurs, the battery slowly loses voltage. If the voltage drops too low, deep discharge occurs, and the battery can no longer be recharged. In some cases, the battery may even start leaking or bulging. If the battery is significantly discharged, the electric fence device activates a power-saving function. The battery indicator will change from green to red. If this signal is ignored, the device will turn off after a certain period. To avoid deep discharge, it is best to regularly recharge the battery and fully charge it after use.

9 or 12-volt Battery Devices
The 9 or 12-volt battery devices are compact and commonly used for mobile fences. The preferred choice is always a 230-volt electric fence device when there is a power outlet available within 200 meters of the pasture. With a 230-volt device, there is less chance of interruptions, and the added convenience of not needing to worry about recharging or replacing the battery.
If no outlet is available nearby, a 9 or 12-volt battery-powered electric fence device is a good option. For example, for subdividing pastures or for fences that change locations frequently. These mobile devices are also very suitable for taking on vacation with your horse. All 9-volt battery-powered devices can also be connected to a rechargeable 12-volt battery. A 9-volt battery for the device lasts anywhere from a few months up to a year. The operating costs can be relatively high since the batteries cannot be recharged. A fully charged 12-volt battery lasts approximately 8-14 days before it needs recharging.
The 9-volt and 12-volt devices can also be charged with a solar panel module . Patura solar panel modules come with cables for connecting to the Patura electric fence devices. By switching the device to a lower power setting, you don’t need to worry about recharging a battery or replacing it from spring to autumn.

230 volt schrikdraadapparaat:
The 230-volt electric fence devices are used only when the fence is located near a 230-volt power outlet. A power cable of up to 200 meters to the pasture fence is possible. It is important that the device is placed under a large roof or in a non-flammable building. In this space, a lightning protection system must be installed before the power cable enters the fence.
Combination 12-volt and 230-volt Electric Fence Device
Patura also offers combination electric fence devices that can be used with both 12-volt and 230-volt (model P1, P2, P3, P4 and P5. This allows you to use the same electric fence device in virtually any situation. These combination devices come with a 12-volt connection cable. You can directly connect it to a 12-volt battery. In this case, you hang the device directly on the fence wire or on the fence post. If you want to use the device as a 230-volt device, you can use the supplied external adapter to connect the device to the 230-volt electricity network. It is important that the device, including the power supply, is installed in a dry place or a fireproof building.
